Berlin WelcomeCard
Frequently Asked Questions about the Berlin WelcomeCard
Answers to the most important questions about the Berlin WelcomeCard, organised by topic: purchase and price, validity, public transport, included services and cancellation.
Purchase & Price
Where and how do I get the Berlin WelcomeCard?+
Buy online and receive a voucher by email straight away. Print it out on A4 paper and bring it to Berlin - it serves as both your travel ticket and discount card. No pick-up on site is necessary.
Which variants are available?+
There are three options: Standard (public transport plus up to 50% discount at over 170 partners), Museum Island (adds free admission to the five Island museums) and All Inclusive (free entry to over 30 top attractions including a Hop-on Hop-off bus tour, but without a public transport ticket). See the Prices page to find the right fit.
How much does the Berlin WelcomeCard cost?+
The current price is shown directly in the booking window once you have selected your variant, zone and duration - these three factors determine the price, so you always pay the up-to-date rate. Full details on the Prices page.
Do I need zone AB or ABC?+
You need zone ABC if you are travelling to BER Airport or to Potsdam, as both fall within zone C. If you are staying within the city, zone AB is sufficient. You choose the zone at the time of purchase - an AB card cannot be upgraded to ABC afterwards.
Validity & Use
How do I activate the pass and how long is it valid?+
Activation happens on first use or from the start date you specify. 48- and 72-hour passes are valid for exactly 48 or 72 hours from activation. Multi-day passes (4, 5 or 6 days) are valid until midnight on the last day. For example, a 4-day pass activated on a Wednesday expires on Saturday at 23:59.
Can I visit attractions once or multiple times?+
Each included attraction can be visited once and each discount can be redeemed once. Multiple visits to the same sight using the same card are not permitted during the validity period.
Is the pass transferable or personal?+
The card is personal and non-transferable. A name is recorded on the ticket, and photo ID may be requested when using it. Please only use the pass yourself.
What happens if the pass is lost?+
A lost pass cannot normally be replaced. Keep the card somewhere safe and save the email containing the voucher so you can reprint it if needed. Refunds for lost passes are not available.
Public Transport
Which modes of transport can I use?+
The Standard and Museum Island variants include a public transport ticket. This covers unlimited travel on the underground (U-Bahn), S-Bahn, buses, trams and regional trains within the relevant zone (AB or ABC). The All-Inclusive variant does not include a public transport ticket. More details under Public Transport.
Does the pass count as a public transport ticket?+
Yes - provided you have chosen a variant that includes public transport, the card counts as a full travel ticket within the covered fare zone. You do not need to buy separate tickets for bus or rail.
Does the pass cover the transfer to the airport?+
Travel to Berlin Brandenburg Airport (BER) is covered with the ABC variant, as the airport is in zone C. A zone AB card does not cover the journey and cannot be extended to include zone C afterwards. If you are flying in or out, choose the ABC variant from the start.
Do children travel free?+
Children under 6 travel free on Berlin public transport. In addition, each adult cardholder may bring up to three children aged 6 to 14 free of charge on public transport (with variants that include public transport). There is no discounted card for young people aged 15 and over or adults.
Attractions & Included Services
Which attractions are free and which are discounted?+
It depends on the variant: the All-Inclusive card gives free entry to over 30 top attractions; the Museum Island variant adds the five Island museums. With Standard and Museum Island, you also get discounts of up to 50% at over 170 partners. See the Attractions page for a selection.
Is there priority entry at attractions?+
The Berlin WelcomeCard does not provide general fast-track access. As you already hold a pass, you can skip the ticket queue at the box office, but there is normally no priority at entry or security checks.
Cancellation & Other Questions
Can the pass be cancelled or refunded?+
Once purchased, cancellation or refund is normally not possible. The tickets are date-specific and excluded from exchange. Check your voucher for the exact cancellation terms.
Do I need to carry ID?+
Carry a form of photo ID, as proof of identity may be requested during inspections on public transport or at attractions. As the card is personal, the name on the ticket should match yours.
